The mistreatment of Indian Muslim continues
Muslim Kashmiris continue to have their basic rights violated by the Indian government, which forbids Muharram processions and attacks anyone who attempts to peacefully protest the prohibition. We would have anticipated that they would have drawn some conclusions from the previous year when a similar prohibition and accompanying use of force against processions drew strong condemnation on a global scale.
Even though
the processions did not appear to involve any attempts to agitate against the
Indian government, members of the ruling BJP and their front men in the media
have already started trying to portray participants as separatists. Additionally,
the Ministry of External Affairs actually dared to accuse them of
"bigotry" and fostering religious differences in India in the face of
worldwide criticism, including that of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation
(IOC) and several other nations who are typically friendly with India. Remember
that the BJP, a political party whose policies are essentially founded on a
Hindu-supremacist ideology, runs India's central government. Since coming to
power in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP government and several
state governments have continually astounded observers with how brazenly
bigoted and anti-minority their policies can be and how they fail to put an end
to acts of communal violence against Muslims, Christians, and low caste Hindus.
In
the meantime, Modi's fascist administration has made it nearly impossible for
the truth to reach the Indian media, with the majority of outlets presenting
blatant state propaganda and the small number of independent outlets still
operating seeing their owners and staff subjected to harassment and fabricated
police cases.
Islamabad
also defended the IOC's recent statement criticizing the removal of the special
status granted to the disputed Kashmir area and other unlawful measures carried
out on or after August 5, 2019. Regarding the bigotry allegation,
the foreign ministry stated that India has made "ludicrous comments and
baseless claims," and added that "India's hubris in this area is
disgraceful." In fact, it appears New Delhi's most recent strategy is to
rely on Islamophobia to sway public opinion in its favor by making such
patently false and hypocritical claims.
