Political Devastation

The Supreme Court's decision to overturn the deputy Speaker's actions in the provincial assembly as being "without lawful authority" brought the high drama of Punjab's constitutional crisis to a close. The SC ruled that Hamza Shehbaz's election was invalid, paving the door for PML-Q leader Pervaiz Elahi to take over the much sought-after position.   Has the court decision that resulted in the installation of a PTI-backed administration in Punjab assisted in resolving the nation's political crisis? or lowering the tension? Not at all.   The most recent turn of events has been a major defeat for the PML-N since it has allowed its political rivals to retake its provincial stronghold. However, these changes have also thrust Pakistan into unknown territory, which may portend future instability. Two governments—the one in the center and the one in Punjab—don't acknowledge each other as legitimate and could collide.   People who b

TTP dialogue: an unbalanced rationale

To 'persuade' the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to come together for peace in Kabul this summer under the control of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), notably the 'Haqqani' Group, Pakistan flew in tribal elders, Ulema, bureaucrats, and stakeholders. The discussions, which were supposed to start in October 2021, are supposedly at a standstill since TTP appears unlikely to budge from its key demand of undoing the former FATA's merger with the province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Such reversal is not taking place since it would require a constitutional amendment. The TTP's insistence on maintaining its military presence in its home country despite a peace agreement has reportedly drawn the ire of Pakistani interlocutors. On July 30, 2022, a second tribal group from Pakistan arrived in Kabul as part of the most recent effort to advance the peace negotiations. This team joined a previous Ulema delegation headed by Mufti Taqi Usmani. Ulema further urg

Truth combined with words is poison.

Religions, wars, lies, hatred, and other issues have affected human existence ever since what is known as the Cognitive Revolution, which occurred when people developed, the capacity for imagination and deceit as well as, more crucially, the capacity for communication. Many refer to it as the gift of words. It could also be referred to as the curse of language, in some circles.   According to Neil deGrasse Tyson, if intelligent aliens from a distant planet ever come into contact with humanity, they would only be able to communicate via arithmetic and science. Words would be meaningless in this circumstance. Additionally, throughout human history, words have caused problems in the shape of wars, cultural misunderstandings, religious dogmas, racial and national hatreds, etc. Words and numbers differ significantly in one important way: only numbers are truthful.   That truism, however, is actually badly misunderstood. The reason is that, although words are capable of c

There must be a leap of faith involved --Imran Khan faces a genuine disqualification risk--

The main threat to Imran Khan's eligibility may not be related to the foreign funding matter as much as it may be related to his failure to declare his earnings from the sale of Toshakhana presents to the ECP as required annually in the years 2018 and 2019. On a strictly technical and legalistic view of rules and precedent, even though the declaration was eventually made in 2020, it can still have serious repercussions if it is not made during the pertinent and specific two years. The possibility of a Supreme Court disqualification ruling in a case involving a previous prime minister's failure to disclose assets looms over the current situation like a sword of Damocles. In the case of Imran Khan Niazi & others v. Mian Mohammad Nawaz Shareef, the Supreme Court ruled that Mian Mohammad Nawaz Shareef was permanently disqualified for holding public office because he failed to disclose to the ECP in 2013 his "unwithdrawn" payable salary of 10,000 UAE Dirh
