Foreign Office condemns India's deceptive presentation of Partition
The Bharatiya Janata Party, which is currently in power in India, is carrying out Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision last year to designate Pakistan's Independence Day as "Partition Horrors Remembrance Day," which is yet another indication that there are slim chances of any thawing in relations between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
The action
sparked new tensions between the two nations, with Islamabad sharply criticizing
the BJP government for its "mischievous behavior."
The Indian
action was sharply condemned in a statement released by the Foreign Office on
Thursday. "True to its customary revisionist goal, the BJP-RSS-led
dispensation has once again sought to reference the sad events and mass
migration that took place in the aftermath of Independence in 1947 in a
hypocritical and biased manner."
The
statement said, "It is reprehensible that the BJP government is willfully
seeking to play with the sensibilities of the people through erroneous
interpretation of history as part of its divisive political strategy. It
declared that Indian officials "must work to ameliorate the conditions of
the Muslims and other minorities in India if they sincerely care about agony,
suffering, and pain."
The Foreign
Office noted that there was ample evidence from the previous seven decades that
India's claim to secularism was a fraud. According to the statement, "the
fact is that contemporary India is an unofficial 'Hindu Rashtra' that has no
place or tolerance for other religious minorities, notably Muslims who are
subject to prejudice, persecution, and political and socioeconomic
exclusion."
The Foreign
Office requested that the Indian government refrain from politicizing the
festivities around Independence Day and instead pay heartfelt homage to all
those who gave their lives to ensure a better future for everyone.
The anguish
of partition can not be forgotten, Prime Minister Modi stated on India's
Independence Day the previous year. Due to senseless hatred and violence,
millions of our sisters and brothers were forced to flee their homes, and many
of them died. May Partition Horrors Remembrance Day serve as a constant
reminder of the need to eradicate social division and discord and fortify
the spirit of unity, social harmony, and human empowerment.
Pakistan
also denounced the decision at the time. The decision to continue forward with
the idea serves as a reminder of the Indian government's attempts to politicize
the past to advance domestic politics. It will worsen the situation
and reduce the likelihood of any interaction between Pakistan and India.
Back-channel
negotiations between the two nations came to a stop due to India's tougher
stance on Kashmir.
The Indian
government, according to local officials, consistently takes actions that show
little interest in enhancing relations with Pakistan.
